Our Story

Shug Studios began life as Ash Studios. Three friends (Shug, Anth and Harry) came together and opened a rehearsal studio and named it after the initials of their first names. The studio is in a section of an old shoe factory that was built in the 1960s.
Over time, Shug became the only one of the friends involved in running the studio.

He ran it for around fifteen years. He hated turning bands away and would open at anytime for anyone. He taught guitar lessons in his office and when he wasn't teaching, would fill the studio with the sweet sound of blues from his guitars, custom made by his dear friend Chris George.

In 2018, Shug sadly became too ill to run the studio anymore and offered the job to myself (Karina) and James. We were gutted that he wouldn't be able to run the place anymore but were beyond excited to be offered the opportunity to carry it on.

We had rehearsed at the studio since it opened and Shug was like an Uncle or family member to us.

We renamed the studio to Shug Studios in his honour.

When we took over, we wanted to keep the same ethos as Shug.

We provide a safe and welcoming space for musicians of any age or ability to learn, practice and record.
